Technology and Japan—now there are a couple of kindred terms! “Device Art,” the new exhibition in the Ars Electronica Center, features whimsical exhibits representing a new art form engendered by our Digital Age.
Just in time, on the last day before the festival opens, all devices in the Ars Electronica Center’s new Device Art exhibition are hooked up and humming. Arrayed across the 1st Upper Level and 3rd Lower Level are more than 20 installations whose capricious design is an earnest approach to getting a little bit closer to the essence of technology. Nearly all of the—predominantly Japanese—artists including Device Art initiator and curator Prof. Hiroo Iwata have arrived in Linz to attend the opening of “Device Art.” If you’d like to get a bit of a sneak preview—well, we just accompanied media outlet representatives on a press tour through the exhibition in the Ars Electronica Center and brought back a few initial impressions. During the 2014 Ars Electronica Festival, there’ll be an opportunity to take part in the Device Art Symposium on SAT September 6, 2014, 11 AM in the theme area. To meet the artists in person, attend the opening of the exhibition on WED September 3, 2014, 6:30 PM, take part in the Opening Parcours on THU September 4, 2014 11 AM or participate in the Artists Talks on THU September 4, 2014, 4 PM, or FRI September 5, 2014, 3 PM. The exhibition runs until June 2015.
