Linz’s 1st Kids Culture Week at the Ars Electronica Center
Thursday, October 17–Sunday, October 27, 2013 (except Monday, October 21, 2013)

(Linz, October 15, 2013) “Culture for young people!” is the motto of the first Kids Culture Week in Linz from Thursday, October 17 to Sunday, October 27, 2013. The Ars Electronica Center is participating with a specially designed program in which exhibitions, guided tours and workshops invite youngsters to peer into the future and give some thought to the world of tomorrow. Admission is free of charge for all visitors under age 14. Please preregister for the workshops by sending an e-mail to center@aec.at or calling 0732.7272.0.

The AEC is offering the following tours in conjunction with the 1st Kids Culture Week:

Journey of Adventure
Thursday, October 17–Sunday, October 27, 2013 (except Monday, October 21, 2013) / 3 PM

Encounters with fantastic creatures, rescuing the inhabitants of a South Sea island from evil pirates, and exploring wonderful sounds are on the itinerary of this journey of discovery through the Ars Electronica Center. For kids age 6-10.

Family Tour
Saturday & Sunday, October 19 & 20, 26 & 27 / 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM each day

Will robots of the future not just be playthings but members of the family? In a few years, will our lunch’s way to the dining room table begin in a 3-D printer? In this Family Tour, visitors both young and old experience what the world of tomorrow might be like. For kids age 4-12.

AEC Parcours
Thursday, October 17–Sunday, October 27, 2013 / throughout the AEC opening hours (except Monday, October 21, 2013)

Outfitted with a map, kids age 4 and up can explore (together by their parents) the Ars Electronica Center. This is an entertaining self-guided tour with lots of challenging questions to answer along the way.

Workshop for 6-10-year-olds

By crossing plants and breeding animals, human beings intentionally intervene in their environment. But what occurs naturally and what has humankind brought about? This workshop will deal with these issues, and kids will also get the opportunity to use images to create fantastic creatures of their own.

Workshop for 10-14-year-olds

Here, kids age 10-14 are equipped with stuffed animals and glue guns to become a new breed of construction engineer and create wonderful hybrid creatures—for instance, three-legged Barbies, lizard bears, and alligator ponies.

Shadow Play: Mirror Images

Workshop for 6-10-year-olds

Participants explore the bright and dark sides of light. Is it possible to bend light or cover shadows? This workshop shows you how to become a shadow & light hunter and create your own shadow monsters and mirror creatures.

Quadcopter Flight School

Workshop for 10-14-year-olds

Learn to fly a multi-rotor mini-helicopter. There’s even a “steeplechase” course with hazards and obstacles that let you prove your piloting abilities. Plus, you’ll learn a lot of interesting stuff about how quadcopters are used in science, the military, art and entertainment.

Workshop for 6-10-year-olds

Programming robots is easy with LEGO WeDo. Crocodiles, enchanting fairies or other fantasy creatures—Ma Boter and Ro Schine enable youngsters to take a playful, interesting approach to mechanics and sensors, do fun experiments and realize their own ideas.

Workshop for 10-14-year-olds

These workshops focus on the microscope and its significance for modern science. Kids age 10-14 get acquainted with a scanning electron microscope, work with a high-resolution light microscope, and immerse themselves into the depths of the microcosm.
