(Linz, February 14, 2014) The great lineup of events at the Ars Electronica Center is the perfect way to keep the wintertime blues at bay while school’s out! There’s lots of fun stuff to do: programming minicomputers, playful experimentation with mechanical devices, sensors and motors, and recording and processing sounds in the in-house SoundLab. And world-class snowboard action is on tap at the next Deep Space LIVE on Thursday, February 20, 2014: “The Art of FLIGHT” is a 3-D film showing snowboarder Travis Rice and a few of the world’s best freeriders on their search for new terrain, death-defying downhill runs, and deep-powder slopes that have never been ridden before. To preregister for the following activities, call 0732/7272-51 or send an e-mail to center@aec.at.

I LIKE: my sounds (ages 10-14)
Wednesday to Friday, February 19-21, 2014 / 9:30 AM-12:30 PM each day / €37 per child

From Wednesday to Friday at the AEC, 10-14-year-olds can take part in a search for interesting sounds and noises that can be captured with a recorder. Kids can then work with the SoundLab’s equipment to process their material together with their own voices and the sounds made by various instruments into loops, and use SoundCloud to upload their creations to the internet and share them with music enthusiasts worldwide.

Family Tour / €3 (excluding entrance fee)
Tuesday, February 18 & Wednesday, February 19 & Thursday, February 20 & Friday, February 21 / Saturday & Sunday / 11:30 AM & 2:30 PM each day

The Family Tour begins with an entertaining and informative tour of the Ars Electronica Center, a presentation that also raises some thought-provoking questions about our future. For instance, how can we best configure our coexistence with robots. Or whether, in five years, we’ll already be able to turn out a new pair of sneakers at home on a 3D printer.
