(Linz, February 27, 2014) The animation “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” was awarded an Honorary Mention at the Prix Ars Electronica 2012. It is also the thirty millionth entry that is available via Europeana, a virtual archive that brings together the online collections of 2,300 galleries, libraries, museums and archives from across Europe, spanning from Ars Electronica, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the British Library and the Louvre to regional archives and local museums.

Ars Electronica Archive

Ars Electronica holds one of the world’s largest archives of digital media art covering the last 30 years. It consists of documentations of the Ars Electronica Festival since 1979, the archive of Prix Ars Electronica with 48.938 submissions of artists since 1987, as well as documentation of projects of the Ars Electronica Futurelab and of exhibitions in the Ars Electronica Center and worldwide. Beside thousands of video- and audio recordings, numerous photographs, negatives, and slides are stored, as well as an extensive collection of print material including publications, posters, folders, and press material. After a period of intensive collecting and researching data and resources, digitization of physical media and complex migrations of databases and file conversions, the Ars Electronica Archive http://archive.aec.at/ is back online, more extensive than ever before.

Europeana

Europeana www.europeana.eu brings together the digitised content of Europe’s galleries, libraries, museums, archives and audiovisual collections. Currently Europeana gives integrated access to over 30 million books, films, paintings, museum objects and archival documents from some 2,300 content providers. The content is drawn from every European member state and the interface is in 29 European languages, and Europeana receives its main funding from the European Commission.
