(Linz, March 11, 2014) Bible Expedition, an exhibition sponsored by the Bible Society of the Diocese of Linz, will run at the Ars Electronica Center from Thursday to Sunday, March 13-16, 2014. Featured exhibits include various Bible translations as well as valuable Catholic and Protestant Bibles. Plus, high-definition gigapixel images of paintings in Linz’s Parish Church of the Holy Family will be displayed on the 16×9-meter projection surface in Deep Space. A showing there of Gaudenzio Ferrari’s cycle of paintings Storie della vita di Cristo will be accompanied by expert exegesis.
The next Deep Space LIVE on Thursday, March 13, 2014 is entitled Panoptikum, a revue of the latest developments at the nexus of art, technology, science and society.

Bible Expedition: The Exhibition

Bible Expedition invites grown-ups and young people to get to know the Bible. This exhibition offers detailed information about the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. Numerous Bible translations and precious Catholic and Protestant Bibles underscore the ecumenical nature of this exhibition and illustrate the worldwide dissemination of the Bible.

Visitors can use a smartphone or tablet to try out apps having to do with the Bible, and browse through an eBook (in German) by Andrea Schwarz about discovering the Bible in 25 steps.
Deep Space: Andreas Strickner – Painting inside the Dome of Linz’s Parish Church of the Holy Family

The painting inside the church’s dome can be viewed close up as a high-definition gigapixel image. Created in 1912 by Tyrolean artist Andreas Strickner, it depicts scenes from the life of The Holy Family and The Five Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.

Storie della vita di Cristo, a 16th-century cycle of paintings by Gaudenzio Ferrari, depicts events in the life of Jesus Christ. Their primary focus is on how his life began and ended.
Deep Space LIVE: Panoptikum

“Panoptikum” was a mainstay of Austria’s TV lineup for over 20 years. Now, it’s been reconceived and reformatted as a live show in Deep Space with features about the internet. At regular intervals, Ars Electronica Artistic Director Gerfried Stocker, Futurelab CEO Horst Hörtner, and Christoph Kremer, head of the Center, will present a roundup of the latest developments in art, technology, science and society.
Following the Deep Space LIVE event, all videos, images and information that Ars Electronica staffers present in the Panoptikum series will be available for convenient home viewing at Ars Electronica’s Pinterest site.
