(Linz, February 2, 2015) The spotlight is on science at the Ars Electronica Center this Thursday, February 5th. At 6:30 PM, neuroscientist Manuela Macedonia will talk about how mental stress and negative emotional experiences can change the brain’s biochemistry and, on the behavioral level, lead to depression and burnout. And at 8 PM in Deep Space LIVE, Dr. Franz Fellner, chief of radiology at Linz General Hospital and president of the Upper Austrian Medical Association, will provide an update about the University of Linz’s new medical school and also offer some fascinating insights into virtual human anatomy.
All about Manuela Macedonia
The lecture series “Brain for Everybody” is dedicated to the current scientific knowledge and methods of brain research. Dr. Manuela Macedonia is a scientist at the Max Planck Institute in Leipzip for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences and part of the working group “Neuronal Mechanismus of Human Communication”. With some colleagues she has founded “Neuroscience for Your – Institute for Knowledge Transfer from Neuroscience”. Her target is to give insights into current brain research for interested lay audience.
All about Franz Fellner
Dr. Franz Fellner heads the Department of Radiology at Linz General Hospital. For over 20 years, he has intensively studied the possibilities of using imaging procedures to explain human anatomy and the functions of the human body to the general public. Since the 1990s, he has spoken to audiences worldwide and organized continuing professional education presentations. He has served as president of the Upper Austrian Medical Association since mid-September 2014.
Deep Space LIVE
The Ars Electronica Center is now hosting a Deep Space LIVE event every Thursday (except holidays) at 8 PM. Each presentation will feature ultra-high-definition imagery in 16×9-meter format and will be accompanied by expert commentary, entertaining stand-up repartee, and musical improvisation. Admission is €2. Holders of a valid Museum ticket are admitted free of charge.
