(Linz, October 12, 2015) This coming weekend, Saturday & Sunday, October 17-18, the Ars Electronica Center will focus on the fascinating realm inside the human body. Visitors to the new Deep Space 8K will have an opportunity to behold the anatomy theater of the future and get close-up, layer-by-layer looks at organs, muscles, bones, the cardiovascular system and the body’s network of nerves. Dr. Franz Fellner of Linz General Hospital and Klaus Engel of Siemens Health Care will already be getting things started on Thursday at 8 PM with a presentation of new forms of three-dimensional anatomical visualization that deliver photorealistic images of the human body. There’ll be a repeat performance on Saturday at 3 PM. On Sunday at 3 PM, Dr. Andreas Shamiyeh of Linz General Hospital will narrate a fascinating tour of the digestive system.

Pictures made inside the body enable us to better understand human anatomy. They’re provided by imaging procedures such as computer tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR). Visitors to “The Universe Within” will get acquainted with new methods of teaching anatomy and also learn how technologies developed in the animation industry have yielded spinoffs that are revolutionizing medical imaging.

Human Bodies: The Universe Within is an application especially developed by the Ars Electronica Futurelab to exploit the full potential of this virtual three-dimensional space and make exploration of the human body an impressive experience. Organs, muscles, bones, the cardiovascular system and the body’s network of nerves—layer by layer, extraordinarily detailed and breathtakingly beautiful 3D visualizations deliver ultra-close-up views inside the human body.
A Journey through the Digestive Tract
3-4 PM / Deep Space LIVE
Dr. Andreas Shamiyeh, chairman of the 2nd Department of Surgery at Linz General Hospital invites you to embark on a trip through the human digestive tract on Sunday at 3 PM.
