(Linz, December 13, 2016) The Ars Electronica Center is spicing up the weekend before Christmas with a colorful lineup of fun activities for the whole family. On December 17th and 18th, visitors can take a stroll on the Moon, create Christmas decorations out of exotic arts & crafts material, experiment with sounds and moving pictures, and take a tour of the Ars Electronica Center’s LED façade. There’s something for everyone at Family Days!

Deep Space for Kids / Saturday & Sunday, December 17-18 / 11 AM, 12:30, 3:30 & 4:30 PM

SILENCE? You’ve got to be kidding! In Deep Space 8K, kids are encouraged to give free rein to their playfulness. The lineup of fun & games includes a walk on the Moon, horseplay in a comic aquarium and a journey of discovery in subterranean Rome, a mysterious realm of mines, canals and secret temples!

Share and Swap / Saturday & Sunday, December 17-18 / 10 AM-5:30 PM

Kids adore toys—but sometimes they quickly grow tired of them. At the TeilBar in the Kid’s Research Lab in the Ars Electronica Center, kids can trade in their unwanted kewpie dolls and other playthings for new and interesting stuff. There’s pretty wrapping material to boot!

Colorful Lights / Saturday & Sunday, December 17-18 / 10 AM-5:30 PM

Kids who enjoy arts & crafts and would like to create their own Christmas decorations from LEDs and other cool materials have come to the right place here!

Guided Tour and Deep Space Presentation in Austrian Sign Language / Sunday, December 18th, 2 PM

This tour in Austrian Sign Language will demonstrate what a powerful impact technology is having in many people’s lives nowadays. Then, a visit to Deep Space 8K lets participants behold fascinating virtual worlds in 2-D and 3-D. Reservations required: please send an e-mail to center@aec.at.

Prix Workshop and SoundLab / Saturday & Sunday, December 17-18 / 10 AM-5:30 PM

This is just the thing for anyone who’d get a kick out of creating a film clip including a soundtrack. The infrastructure at your disposal includes a fully-equipped sound studio, a greenscreen and an animation box, as well as all the hardware and software you need to run them. Plus, anyone under the age of 19 can conveniently submit their creations for prize consideration in the 2017 Prix Ars Electronica’s u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD category.

Illuminated Façade Tour / Saturday & Sunday, December 17-18 / 4 & 5 PM

The itinerary of this tour reconnoitering the illuminated façade of the Ars Electronica Center includes locations that are normally off-limits to visitors. You’ll get a close-up look at the 38,500 LED lights adorning the Museum of the Future’s 5,100 m2 exterior shell. Tickets are available free-of-charge at the box office on the day of the tour.

Advent Program / Saturday, December 17th / 1-5:30 PM

A robot that paints Christmas tree ornaments? Visitors to the Ars Electronica Center can give free rein to their imagination creating decorative glass balls for their Tannenbaum!
