Deep Space LIVE: The Amazing Human Hand: All about Grasping

(Linz, April 3, 2017) It’s made up of 27 bones, 36 joints, 39 muscles and over 17,000 receptors—we talking, of course, about the amazing human hand. At the next Deep Space LIVE on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 7 PM, microsurgeon Dietmar Hager will talk about how important the hand is for us human beings and he’ll demonstrate the incredibly sophisticated interplay of muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons that it takes for the hand to function smoothly. Plus, Dr. Hager will offer some insights into a surgeon’s everyday life on the job, and show how patients can positively influence the postoperative healing process. This Deep Space LIVE event is a Sparks Science Espresso presented in conjunction with the “Beyond the Lab: The DIY Science Revolution” exhibition.
About Dietmar Hager
After studying medicine in Vienna, Dietmar Hager did a residency in trauma surgery at Linz General Hospital. He has been a staff surgeon at numerous medical centers in Germany, Italy, England, Scotland and the USA, and has performed over 7,000 operations. He now has a private practice in Linz. As a hobby astrophotographer, he has published many photos in international journals and textbooks.
