Spring Tour de Linz / Saturday, April 22nd / 10:30 AM-1:30 PM

The FrühlingsRADLn organized by Upper Austria’s bike lobbying organization offers cyclists the opportunity to take a one-hour group spin through Linz. It kicks off at 10:30 AM at Martin-Luther-Platz (next to Thalia/Landstraße) and winds up at 12 Noon at the Maindeck of the Ars Electronica Center.

The Story of Bike Trials / Saturday, April 22nd / 1:30-2 PM

Trial biking means spectacular cycling feats and jumps over obstacles. Mountain bike legend and trial bike pioneer Hans “Now Way” Rey introduced Linz native Dominik Raab to trial biking about 20 years ago. In 2016 in Linz, they collaborated on a video that Dominik Raab now presents during Deep Space Weekend. Plus, Dominik Raab will give a live performance showing off the cool stuff you can do with a trial bike.

Mountain Bike Trekking in the Peruvian Andes – Cycling at 5,000+ meters above sea level / Saturday, April 22nd / 3-3:30 PM

Evelyn and Michael Steiner, mountain bikers and natives of nearby Windischgarsten, give an account of their exciting journey through Peru—the impressive culture of the Incas, dream-like landscapes and adventures. On a trekking tour with mountain bikes, the couple surmounted several passes at altitudes over 5000 m. They also brought back great pictures—crystal-clear lagoons, snow-white glaciers, and night skies filled with countless stars.

LINES Magazine: Who’s still publishing a print magazine these days?
Saturday, April 22nd / 5-5:30 PM

It’s 100 pages long and weighs 750 grams—LINES, Austria’s first gravity mountain bike magazine. At Bike Visions 2017, the staff will talk about their motivation for putting out this publication and explain why they decided to issue a hard copy.

Unsupported Ultracycling / Sunday, April 23rd / 1:30-2:30 PM

Oliver Wolf aka The Pedalist has one major passion, unsupported ultracycling—i.e. races over a distance of at least 2,500 km during which the cyclist is completely on his own; outside assistance is prohibited. The king of them all is the Transcontinental Bike Race in which 250 cyclists from 52 countries race from one end of Europe to the other, covering 4,000 km and negotiating a total of 40,000 meters of altitude. The participants have to pass three checkpoints, and are responsible for their own navigation, food/drink, accommodations and repairs. There are no cheering spectators and no prize money either!

BMX. Bicycle Moto Cross / Sunday, April 23rd / 3-4 PM

For many years, Sebastian Grubinger has been an enthusiastic participant in flatland, a sub-discipline of freestyle BMX in which cyclists execute tricks and combinations on paved surfaces. In addition to two awesome videos, there will also be a screening of the film that was shot and edited during Deep Space Weekend.

EGO Race: New form of bicycle racing created by eMotors / Sunday, April 23rd / 5-5:30 PM

Equipping bikes with powerful eMotors has made possible a new form of mountain bike racing that includes elements from such disciplines as downhill, 4 cross and motocross. The circuits are often located near big cities, so races can be held even where there’s no mountainous terrain. Mario Preining of EGO Kits, a Salzburg eMotor manufacturer, offers a glimpse into this fast-growing racing scene.

Trial Show by Dominik Raab in the Lobby / Saturday & Saturday, April 22nd and 23rd / 5:30–5:45 PM both days

Linz-based Dominik Raab is one of the world’s best and most popular trial bikers. At the Ars Electronica Center, he’ll demonstrate what trial biking is all about and perform some breathtaking tricks. Fun for the whole family!
