Mission X at the Ars Electronica Center: Train like an Astronaut!
(Linz, May 3, 2017) “Mission X: Train like an Astronaut” was the motto of an international young people’s competition in fitness and nutrition, the grand finale of which was hosted today by the Ars Electronica Center in Linz. Teams of elementary school pupils learned the basic principles of a healthy diet and physical activity, and competed for points in training modules. This was designed to be a fun way for kids to find out about the future of space travel and educational options that can make their own lives go far! In practical training missions oriented on such attributes as strength, endurance, coordination, balance and spatial perception, pupils practiced scientific thinking and teamwork. The day’s star guest was “Austronaut” Franz Viehböck, the sole Austrian space traveler to date. Mission X was staged by the GÖP–Society of Austrian Planetariums, stem&mint e.U. – Space & Science Communications, and Ars Electronica Center Linz, Austria’s official European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO).
Ars Electronica Center Linz Is a Member of the ESERO Network
The Ars Electronica Center has officially hosted an ESERO since June 2016. This bureau is operated jointly by the ESA–European Space Agency and the FFG–Austrian Research Promotion Agency. ESERO’s mission is to provide material for classroom instruction in mathematics, computer science, the natural sciences and technology to foster young people’s interest in space travel and ultimately interest them in technical and scientific fields. The long-term aim is to increase the number of college graduates who majored in scientific fields.
