For the whole family
Winter Wonderland at the Ars Electronica Center
(Linz, December 13, 2017) Lots of family-style fun performing experiments, creating films and doing arts & crafts projects is in store for visitors to the Ars Electronica Center this weekend. On Saturday & Sunday, December 16-17, we’ve lined up a colorful program with the accent on Yuletide. You can design your own Christmas tree ornaments and produce them with a laser cutter, program a robot to adorn glass balls for your tree, create illuminated window decor, and shoot your own Christmas-themed video. Family Days at the Ars Electronica Center is an occasion for togetherness!
Overview of our scheduled events:
The Miracle of Christmas with littleBits
Saturday, December 16, 11 AM-1 PM & 2-5:30 PM
littleBits are miniature construction elements with built-in magnets so they can be easily assembled into circuits. Playing with them demonstrates how electrical applications function in everyday life. For instance, with a little help from littleBits, you can build your own illuminated Christmas tree.
Christmas Arts & Crafts in FabLab
Saturday & Sunday, December 16 & 17 / 11 AM-5:30 PM both days
On this Advent weekend, the FabLab is morphing into a Christmas-themed arts & crafts workshop where you can use a laser cutter to turn out ornaments for your tree and learn how to conjure up animated Wonder Disks.
Eggbot
Saturday & Sunday, December 16 & 17 / 11 AM-1 PM and 2-5:30 PM both days
The Eggbot is a robot that can be programmed to paint spherical objects, and this makes it especially well-suited to creatively adorning Christmas tree ornaments!
Creativity with Colorful Lights
Saturday & Sunday, December 16 & 17 / 2-5:30 PM both days
Here, the accent is on hands-on fun and designing illuminated objects with LEDs, colorful paper and other glitzy materials. Whether you’re into Christmas presents, tree ornaments or window décor, you can get into the spirit of the season in a creative way.
Produce Christmas Films in the Prix Workshop
Sunday, December 17 / 11 AM-5:30 PM
The Prix Workshop at the Ars Electronica Center is the go-to place for up-and-coming young filmmakers. Our in-house sound & video lab lets you give free rein to your creativity, and provides access to expert assistance in all aspects of the film production process.
Deep Space Special: “In search of the Christmas star …”
Saturday & Sunday, December 16 & 17 / 3:30 PM both days
According to the New Testament, the Star of Bethlehem guided stargazers and wise men from the East to the birthplace of Jesus Christ. But what cosmic phenomenon could actually be observed at that time? Visitors to Deep Space at the Ars Electronica Center will depart on journey through space and time in search of their own personal Christmas Star.
LED Façade Tour
Saturday & Sunday, December 16 & 17 / 4-4:30 and 5-5:30 PM
This guided tour of the Ars Electronica Center’s colorfully illuminated façade provides curious visitors of all ages with a close-up look at the LEDs that make the light shows happen.
