Deep Space LIVE: GameStage: Sound Games

(Linz, 5.3.2019) The alarming ringing of a ship’s bell, the neighing of horses, powerful drum beats or the threatening howling of a wolf in the midst of the whipping winter storm. A harmonious background noise and the appropriate music are decisive for immersion in computer games, inform about important events and provide a better orientation in the game world. Thursday evening, March 7, 2019, Deep Space LIVE: GameStage will explore the role of sound and music in computer games. In addition to a series of short lectures, many game and sound stations will be available to try out.
Overview of the program:
Sound Images of the Game Industry
Valentin Göllner presents his work as a composer and sound designer and shows how he used it in Total War: Warhammer, Hitman, Anno 2205, Mortal Kombat X and many other games.
Tangible Sound & Post-digital Design
The history, present and future of interactive sound is the focus of the presentation by Dr. Martin Kaltenbrunner, Professor at the Tangible Music Lab at the University of Art Linz.
Deep playSpace
Following the two lectures, dSonance, the new prototype of a playful sound installation, will be presented.
Last words VR
The VR app Last Words by students of the Digital Arts degree course at the FH Oberösterreich is convincing not only because of its excellent graphics, but also because of its extremely harmonious sound backdrop.
Play in the foyer
In the foyer of the Ars Electronica Center, current projects by the FH Upper Austria, Kunstuni Linz and the local development scene can be tried out.
