Deep Space Special: The Great Masters of the Renaissance

(Linz, March 8, 2019) Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”, Michelangelo’s “David” or the “Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli: classics of the Italian Renaissance and ringing names that make not only art enthusiasts prick up their ears. Accompanying the exhibition “The Great Masters of the Renaissance” in the Linz tobacco factory, exhibition director Prof. Manfred Waba will give insights into the development of this exhibition – from the idea to its implementation – at a Deep Space Special on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. The evening will focus on Raphael’s famous fresco “The School of Athens”, which reveals fascinating details on the 16 x 9 metre projection surface of the Deep Space 8K. Deep Space LIVE starts at 7 PM.
The future meets the past – new technologies in archaeology and art history
Georadar and geomagnetics, thermal imaging cameras and laser scanners, diving robots, camera drones and satellites – new technologies have left no stone unturned in archaeology and art history. This applies to research practice as well as to the presentation of their results. Today, laser scans, gigapixel images and virtual reconstructions offer a broad public the opportunity to immerse themselves in long-forgotten epochs. This is especially true for the Deep Space 8K.
