KET – Kids Experience Technology
Tuesday, January 31 to Sunday, March 4, 2012 / Ars Electronica Center Linz
(Linz, January 27, 2012) Following up on its successful debut in February 2011 that drew 1,270 youngsters to the Ars Electronica Center in only 28 days, the KET – Kids Experience Technology traveling exhibition is returning for an encore presentation running January 31 to March 4. The show gives 4-8-year-olds the opportunity to playfully explore scientific phenomena and technological applications. A total of 12 installations are settings for hands-on fun with hydroelectric power and energy generation, magnetism, lathe work and digital modeling, construction, tools, assembling electronic devices, binary data transmission and codes & programming. KET – Kids Experience Technology is a joint project of OTELO and Ars Electronica. The exhibition is supported by the Province of Upper Austria and the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor. Two Interactive Stations from u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD
Codes & Programming and Digital Modeling are two specially developed installations that have been contributed to the exhibition by u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD, a new Ars Electronica division designed as a one-stop-shop for activities especially for kids and youngsters. Digital Modeling expands KET’s Forming Candles station, adding a pen display and easy-to-master Rotation Modeler software that make it possible to create digital models. Installation visitors can use a laser cutter to produce real stickers that they can take home with them. Codes and Programming enables youngsters to have fun while learning the basic principles of coding and programming, and gain an appreciation of the virtually infinite design possibilities this entails.
