Family Night at the Ars Electronica Center
Friday, July 13, 2012 / 6 PM-12 Midnight
(Linz, July 11, 2012) On Family Night, the Ars Electronica Center cordially invites young and old to stop by for family-style fun. Between 6 PM and 12 Midnight, families can create illuminated letters and soundcloudminiatures for the voestalpine Klangwolke and marvel at spectacular, high-definition imagery in Deep Space. And anyone who’d like to use the façade of the Ars Electronica Center as a lighting console and generate colorful visuals to accompany their favorite songs should definitely bring along their smartphone or MP3 player.
Best of Deep Space
6-11:30 PM
Visitors of all ages can experience the fascination of jumbo-format high-definition images, discover hidden details in famous paintings, explore the known universe in 3D stereo, or even join forces to prevent a pirate from laying waste to a 3D South Sea island. Deep Space is equipped with a total of eight 1080p HD- and active stereo-capable Barco Galaxy NH12 projectors that can cover the floor and walls with crystal-clear, 16×9-meter graphics. And as if that weren’t enough, there’s also an observation deck to let you get a bird’s-eye view.
Klangwolke Workshop
6 PM-12 Midnight
“The Cloud in the Net” is the title of this year’s voestalpine Klangwolke that will kick off at 8:30 PM on September 1 in Linz’s riverside Donaupark. All Family Night participants are invited to make their own personal contributions to the voestalpine Klangwolke. We provide kits for all 26 letters of the alphabet, which you can build, equip with LED strips and decorate with paper, ribbons and stickers. The letters will then be part of the Klangwolke spectacle. Plus, you can create so-called soundcloudminiatures in the Ars Electronica Center’s SoundLab. These sound files—perhaps a heartbeat, guitar riff, spoken poetry or a drum groove—can then be uploaded to ars.electronica.art/klangwolke. They’ll either play a part in the big production or be played on the Klangwolke’s 250,000-watt sound system on September 2.
Façade Spectacle
9 PM-12 Midnight
The Ars Electronica Center as a lighting console for your favorite songs? Simply hook up your smartphone or MP3 player to the façade terminal, and the Museum of the Future’s 5,100-m2 façade begins to pulse to the music with colors and patterns you choose. 38,500 LED bulbs make it happen!
