(Linz, November 27, 2012) Visitors to the Ars Electronica Center can attend an extraordinary concert this Friday, November 30, 2012 at 9:30 AM. The International Space Time Concerto features musicians at five locations collaboratively playing nine pieces. The participating institutions are the Newcastle Conservatorium (Australia), the Ars Electronica Center, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (Singapore), the University of Waikato (New Zealand) and the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Audience members can look forward to a one-of-a-kind musical experience. Admission is €2.
The International Space Time Concerto Competition
In 2009, it was decided to stage an extraordinary concert that would also help celebrate the Newcastle Conservatorium’s 60th anniversary in 2012. Which pieces would make up the concert program was decided by an open competition held earlier this year: the International Space Time Concerto Competition. The prizewinning works can be heard at the Ars Electronica Center on November 30, 2012, performed by an ensemble dispersed throughout the world. The musicians will play pipe organs, smartphones, string instruments and other acoustic devices. The name of this unique event was inspired by something that the great conductor Leonard Bernstein once said: “any great artwork readapts time and space.” The International Space Time Concerto is using modern technology to jointly make music in a way that transcends the borders of countries and time zones.
