2013 Ars Electronica Festival
75,048 Visits at Ars Electronica 2013

(Linz, September 9, 2013) Visits exceeded 75,000 at Ars Electronica 2013. The biggest draws at this year’s festival were WIR SIND HIER [We Are Here], the opening event produced by Salvatore Vanasco, the exhibition and Deep Space presentations starring featured artist HR Giger, and Wolfgang Dorninger’s The Aural Memory Machine in Linz’s St. Mary’s Cathedral. Also garnering rave reviews were the Big Concert Night and the open labs in the u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD Festival Village. This year’s decision to cluster all the chats with Prix Ars Electronica prizewinners on a single day was an unqualified success according to festival co-producers Christine Schöpf and Gerfried Stocker: “This resulted in considerably more attention being focused on the artists and their works.” Another well-received innovation has to do with the Campus exhibition, which was limited to a single guest institution in the past; the decision to invite outstanding artists from 10 of a country’s art colleges got lots of Likes from visitors.

519 Artists and Scientists from 45 Countries

More than 500 artists and scientists from 45 countries were the protagonists of the art projects, speeches, workshops, performances, interventions and concerts on this year’s festival lineup.

382 Protagonists Staged u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD

There were 123 activities and events on the program of Ars Electronica’s festival for young people. Concentrating the Festival Village’s containers on the Maindeck of the Ars Electronica Center got high marks from festivalgoers.
