Wacker Neuson Linz GmbH (AT)

Following the successful cooperation between u19 – CREATE YOUR WORLD and Wacker Neuson’s apprentice training program during the 2017 Ars Electronica Festival, there a follow-up project in 2018 has been organised. As part of apprenticeship training at Wacker Neuson, this year’s festival theme “Error – the Art of Imperfection” will serve as an inspiration for the construction site of the future:

Errors on construction sites can often have life-threatening consequences – whether due to human error or technical malfunctions – safety precautions are more important than ever.

To illustrate this importance, a special 360° parkour for an excavator will be constructed at the Ars Electronica Festival 2018. Festival visitors can playfully control the excavator through windmills and can thus try to avoid obstacles built-in the parkour. Additionally to last year’s project, the installation of Wacker Neuson’s apprentices is to become more interactive and participatory to engage festival visitors. The system’s autonomous reaction to the excavator’s fault controls illustrates the direct effect of faults on construction sites, which often have unforeseeable consequences…
