Prix Ars Electronica: Interactive Art

The Prix Ars Electronica's category 'Interactive Art' has been introduced in 1990. Golden Nicas have been awarded among others to Myron W. Krueger, Tim Berners-Lee, Masaki Fujihata, Toshio Iwai/Ryuichi Sakamoto, Maurice Benayoun, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer and in 2001 to Carsten Nicolai/Marko Peljhan.

This category is open to all types of current interactive works in any form: installations, performance, audience participation, virtual reality, multimedia, telecommunication, etc.

The entries will be judged by an international jury of renowned artists: Alex Adriaansen (NL), Peter Higgins (GB), Hiroshi Ishii (Japan), Masuyama (Japan), and Christa Sommerer (A). Criteria for judging the works include the form of interaction, interface design, new applications, technical innovations, originality and the significant role of the computer for the interaction.

This year the prize money amounts to EUR 20,000 (USD 17,693). The Golden Nica will be awarded € 10,000 (USD 8,846), the two Awards of Distinction each € 5,000 (USD 4,423).
