Hans Wu: u 19 Jury Member

Digital dissidence, electronic enigmas, semotic play impulse and games – this is the characterization Hans Wu (A) gives of himself on the website of FM4, the Austrian youth radio station. In the category u19 - cybergenereration he hopes to see very personal projects, done without a purpose in mind.

From 1991 until 2000 Hans Wu has been working as freelance journalist for print, TV and radio focussing on youth culture, electronic music, computer games, new media – for example as producer of 'La Boum de Luxe', the house and techno show on FM4. Since last year Hans is working as trend scout for the Austrian mobile phone service ONE, but is still writing for the FM4 website.

It is the second time that he is member of the u19 jury at Prix Ars Electronica. At this year's cybergeneration – u19 freestyle computing competition Hans would like to see more 'useless' projects – useful things should be done at school. Kids are not supposed to create multimedia artworks. Much more interesting is a new, fresh view of technology and media. He would like to see very personal, playful things, projects that are 'misusing' the conventional tools.
