Gameboyzz Orchestra by Kunstbande SLA


Themed „lowtech music for hightech people” GameBoy consoles are used as musical instruments: The opening up of new tonal spaces, generated live on the basis of “archaic” technological parameters. Kunstbande SLA are fascinated by old cult games and the archaic sound of electronic music.

Embrace The Swarm – Exploring Collaborative Authorship


Embrace The Swarm is the first in a series of projects designed to promote collaboration between students in various fields. Works resulting from the current cooperative effort by the Ars Electronica Center with University of Arts and Industrial Design, Linz and the Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication Kent (GB) will be presented.

net.flag – A Flag for the Net by Mark Napier


Under the title of “Weltkarten – change the map”, Ars Electronica exhibits current world map projections in which geography legitimated by the nation-state system is overlaid by the reciprocities and points of rupture in our modern Information Society. One of these projects is Mark Napier’s net.flag.

Sintflut – A Concert Performance by Detlef Heusinger


Sintflut, the Flood, metaphor for apocalypse, primal myth not only of Western culture, is a theme with great contemporary relevance. Ars Electronica presents a composition by Detlef Heusinger for orchestra and computer, visually adapted as a video triptych.

Community Interpreting: A video installation by Bettina Henkel


This video installation with DVD players controlled in sync is part of the artistic program of the opening reception of Ars Electronica 2002 and the Linzer Klangwolke. This year Ars Electronica, Brucknerhaus and ORF Upper Austrian Regional Studio jointly present the opening.

VIVISECTOR: A dance performance by Klaus Obermaier and Chris Haring


The dancer changes the color of his skin, bodies duplicate themselves, dissolve and mutate into negative matter. VIVISECTOR breaks the linearity of movement and in doing so shows the absurdity of momentum.
