RE " And what would define "junk "? Which "prejudice" would you employ to
label someone elses info "trash " ? "
For starters: the incessant unsolicited email messages regarding various kinds
of dumb pornography. For more insidious and incessant: the never ending, ever
more ubiquitous advertising esp. the more inane versions and the push-push for
outmoded, environmentally damaging products.
I would not include spiritual belief systems in the junk category even if many
would fit, since any belief in some sort of spiritual value could be better
than none, though here we might get into another (and more interesting)
argument!
I think that your term "prejudice" is the wrong word, as it implied that the
things I speak of have been pre-judged without any experiential data.
Even if I were speaking of belief systems, I'd probably speak from some
experience!
Anyway, it has been my extensive and annoying experience with the take-over of
all communications media by commercial and corporate interest that has caused
me to shun the media that carry this junk whenever possible!
I am also becoming leery of opening my email knowing I have to peruse and
delete the numerous items of junk mail!
Note also, that in the junk information scene, there is even more falsehood
than in the presumably 'legitimate' stuff! And for the latter just try the
heavily filtered 'news'! (What we do get has to be approved by the corporate
owners of the networks! Bill Moyers has been banned by most; the advertiser-
clients call the shots!)
Another way to define "junk information" is all information without any real,
meaningful content.
(Just add up the time and energy we are expected to waste just to deal with
the bombardment of exactly that stuff alone!)
