Origin

2005

Daniel Lee (US)

The turn of the millennium was an occasion for artist Daniel Lee to return to the beginnings of life on earth. In 1999, he began work on “Origin.”

The artist represented his concept of evolution through a series of digital photos and an animated film. In the beginning, there was the fish (“Coelacanth”), followed, 10 stages of development later, by the human being. In his series of images, he reveals the affinity of all living creatures—mammals, reptiles and fish alike.

The “Hybrid” logo of the 2005 Ars Electronica Festival comes from Daniel Lee’s work “Origin.”
