Aquaplay

2006

Conjure up creative patterns on an innovative display! With “Aquaplay,” Himanshu Khatri has come up with a concept for a display that is delightfully different than conventional pixel graphics.

A large, fluid-filled, transparent container is equipped with air vents in its base. You use a touchpad to tell the built-in computer what pattern to produce; it’s then formed in 2D or 3D by precisely controlled batches of air bubbles.

This innovative display could be used to depict information, in signage and guidance systems, or even as a conversation piece in an exquisitely designed interior.

For his "Aquaplay" concept, Himanshu Khatri was awarded [the next idea] Art and Technology Grant at Prix Ars Electronica 2006. In conjunction with this grant, Khatri will work together with the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s staff to produce an "Aquaplay" prototype.

Realized in Cooperation with Ars Electronica Futurelab: Horst Hörtner, Rudolf Hanl, Jürgen Nussbaummüller.
