Prix Ars Electronica 94
Contest for interactive art and computer graphics, animation and music

' ORF Landesstudio ORF Landesstudio

In the 15 years of the Ars Electronica, this festival in Linz for art, technology and society has been renewed and expanded in seven-year cycles. In 1987, the contest initiated by the Österreichische Rundfunk (the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, ORF), the Prix Ars Electronica, was made a part of the festival, as will happen with the Ars Electronica Center in 1993/1994. This building, now being constructed by the city of Linz on the bank of the Danube, will open as a museum of the future and a place to learn and experiment with new media in 1996.

While the Ars Electronica's changing annual themes initiate discussion of future developments in a cultural context, the Prix Ars Electronica is the continuous forum for the presentation of productions in the area of tension between art and technology. Therefore, the Ars Electronica has had a dual foundation since 1987.

Although the Prix Ars Electronica was originally conceived as an international contest for computer art, it has since been opened to art, science, research and productions from the entertainment sector. The goal of the Prix Ars Electronica is to acknowledge outstanding achievements, thereby giving new impulses for the future;

The Prix Ars Electronica 94 is made possible by funding from the Kapsch AG, the city of Linz and the province of Upper Austria. Prize money amounting to ATS 1.25 million and the link to the internationally renowned festival makes the Prix Ars Electronica an annual must for those who are exploring new possibilities of computer design.
