There will hardly be another festival looked forward to with such anxious anticipation. Will it be appreciated, will it be provocative, will there be controversies? Ars Electronica walks on the tightrope of experiments and, as does everything new and unfamiliar, it triggers most controversial reactions. Ars Electronica leaves the secured paths of accepted and established culture which is the very aspect that makes for the appeal and characteristic feature of Ars Electronica.
It certainly is not mere chance that this Festival was initiated in Linz. After all, it is a reflection of the dynamics and innovative energy of a modern city embedded in a living cultural setting accomodating also the controversial and critical.
Along these lines I hope that Ars Electronica 88 will be most successful.
