In 1980, Ars Electronica was established as a biennial festival. In that year, the Festival was characterized by two dimensions:
1. Socio-cultural animation projects based on a special interaction between electronic possibilities and media, such as for example the "Linz Steel Symphony" and the join-in-concert "Musica creativa".
2. Demonstration and discussion of electronic technologies and electronic media in art, science and society.
