Welcome To The Wired World
Mythos Information
The symposium, performances, workshops, installations, network projects and events spotlight the moment of "digital evolution" in which the existence of machines becomes natural and the handling of new technologies takes the step from cultural technique to new "nature". Memesis is a synonym for the current speed and density of cultural and technological development vectors up to a not completely forseeable phase of our mass-media controlled surroundings.
Ars Electronica ´95 started from the premise that information is highly valued in our society. The exchange of data via networks and cables has become a central part of our lives and creates new forms of interaction and communication in our society. Starting from this thematic complex, the "information myth" was taken under close scrutiny, and the wired world was presented as part of our reality. Symposia, net projects and events described life in the net with its specific qualities and analyzed the new virtual geography of global data networks; use and costs of a networked society were questioned. |
