Arjen van der Meulen was born in Amsterdam (NL) in 1964. From 1980 to 1985 he studied at the Graphics Design School there. 1985—1987he worked for the "Visual Service Benelux" in Eindhoven, since 1987 he is working for VB Visual Design in Amsterdam.

Immediately after my studies, that is in 1985, I started working with computer graphics. That is why I had to do with sophisticated and "color spacing" images every day. Slowly I tried to get my own pictures towards art. I understand the computer to be one tool out of many and not as a replacement for pencil, paper and photography.

In order to produce the images I shot some photographs in an old house in Torgau (G.D.R.). Then I reworked them with the computer and a paint program. The "originals" of the photos, that is, enlarged prints of the original slides, are framed in wood and lacquer and are hanging in the now refurbished house in Torgau.
