HONORARY MENTION
Volkslieder für gemischte Stimmen und Lieder
Zorah Mari Bauer

Zorah Mari Bauer was born in 1957. After her studies of Germanistics and linguistics in Graz and Hamburg she worked as drummer, singer and keyboard musician between 1979 and 1985. In 1987 she received a grant by the City of Graz for the musicalization of poems by Ernst Jandl, excerpts of which were performed by the Graz Jazz Academy Choir under Lauren Newton. In 1990, Zorah Man Bauer was awarded the Austrian State Grant for Composition. For years the artist has composed musical commissions for film, TV and radio.

The videotape "Black Forest — Blue Danube" (18 min) presents a collection of humoresque, as well as biting notes on the subject of "heimat and folklore" arranged in 24 chapters, performed and presented by Zorah Mari Bauer and Viola Kiefner.

The Viennese and the Swabian, trivial Germanism — metaphors and interminable yodeling play — in the studioatmosphere, with blue box and soundsampling — between art, kitsch and cliché, biedermeier and music clip — with contemporary themes: nationalism versus integration, pattern versus perspective, and the ABC of traditional folksongs and history versus the oblivion.
