HONORARY MENTION
Eclat de voix
Robert Normandeau

The title can be translated as 'Voice Fragments', and also has a second meaning translatable as 'Shouts'. I have chosen this title for both meanings; the breakup of the voice into little pieces - very little pieces, even microscopic. In the second meaning, there is anger, like that of children, which suddenly appears and disappears like a tornado. The concept is to delve deeply into the energy of the voice of an eleven year old child, Marie-Hélène Blain, who has consented to the idea of recording many dozens of sounds extracted from the 'Dictionnaire des bruits' (Dictionnary of Noises) of Jean-Claude Trait and Yvon Dulude. The work exists in two versions; the first, a stereo tape, is intended as a radiophonic presentation or presented as a concert on an orchestra of loudspeakers, and the second version is a sixteen-track tape concert presentation utilizing one loudspeaker per track. It is the first work of a cycle of pieces where the sound spatialization is composed in the studio as well as the other sound parameters. Some sounds have been generated with the computer music system SYTER at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris. Other sounds have been created for 'Bédé', a work commissioned by the record label empreintes digitales.
