HONORARY MENTION
Cubist Ornament - Reach Across from the Sky
Joszef Bullas, Zsolt Krajcsik
In my present work, I ask questions about some pairs of terms: Flat surfaces - spatial surfaces; ornamental art - plastic art; mystery - constructivism; East - West. Although these terms seem to be in opposition to each other, I try to combine them, because I meet these kinds of contradictions in Hungary every day, a mixture and collection of elements from both Western and Eastern cultures. For my images I mix the ornamental with the constructive, the decorative aspects with conceptual art, and the picture board with the carpet. But in doing so, I do not want to imply any type of synthesis, nor eclecticism, nor post-modernism.
How were these images created? We have been working together since 1990. At first, we used CorelDRAW! as a program, because we wanted to send some pictures to Corel in Canada. This could overcome the problem of how the programmer and the painter could cooperate. At present, this is of no more importance, as we have formed an excellent team. I, the programmer, know the programs better, and I have lots of ideas about what can be done. My friend is a professional artist, therefore he has many new ideas concerning the computer as a fine arts medium, so we are supporting each other. For our current work we use scanned images and 3D graphics programs for image processing. (Jószef Bullás)
