HONORARY MENTION
Legend III
Yoshiyuki Abe

In recent years I have been trying to expand color reproduction with new shading systems. These will not work with modelling/rendering systems such as architectural modelling and CAD/CAM-related product rendering, because the structure of the objects will not be understandable. But the algorithm shows quite a set of new visual features of objects defined in space. If our visual system had a function to reproduce an object with various shading systems in our minds, these would be the images we could see.

In the 'Legend' series, I use only ;four to six hyperbolic paraboloids and soime sinusoidal bump manipulation. So, we cannot see anymore which is the surface of the hyperbolic-paraboloid, and I therefore separated these images from the previous 'Mathscene' series. As the images in the current series are mainly the outcome of the new shading algorithm that does not reproduce ordinary coloring/shading characteristics, I define the subdued colors myself. My graphic work of these last years uses only primitives of hyperbolic-paraboloids. The new algorithm will work with any kind of primitive, dramatically changing its features. So, I'll be working with some more quadrature primitives in a quest for new visual worlds. (Yoshiyuki Abe)
