HONORARY MENTION
Adrénaline
Marine Poirson, Lionel Richerand
The entire city is asleep. Everything seems peaceful, yet for the inhabitants, this peace will not last long. It is a strange evening as Francine discovers to her dismay that one should not try to get money from the automatic teller when a monster from outer space is on the loose.
Frightened, she runs away as fast as she can to escape from the "Unidentified Fearsome Object". As Francine runs by screaming, her panic is passed on to the other inhabitants: a driver loses control of her car, little Chinese people's heads spin. But despite all her efforts, Francine is unable to shake off the creature from outer space. Rescue approaches in the person of a handsome stranger, who runs over the Martian with his rollerblades without even noticing, and then disappears into the night. In the meantime, Francine is so overcome by all the excitement that she faints... Marine Poirson and Lionel Richerand both come from the field of traditional animation. The preference for computer graphics that they share is sustained through cartoons, by Serie Z and modeling clay. The image design and surface treatment provide the space with a unique two-dimensional and yet perspectivist character, allowing them to play with visual gags that are only possible in computer animation. This collaborative work is the result of a combination of various techniques and styles, and as such it reflects the fun and playfulness inherent to computer animation. The work was created during the course of a postgraduate year at the informatics studio of the Ecole Nationale Supe-rieure des Arts Decoratifs, Paris (ENSAD). Most of the film was created on Silicon Graphics workstations with Explore software from Alias Wavefront and with the aid of the usual Macintosh graphics software, such as Photoshop, etc.
