HONORARY MENTION
Mov E
Lamb & Company

Lamb & Company (USA) are Gayle Ayers (director and animator), Doug Sutton (software programmer and technical director), Doug Kingsbury, Jeff Thingvold (who supervises the design and development of various animation programs) and Keith Cormier, who contributes artistic input to the work of Lamb & Company that is distinguised by its team spirit.

Motion capture animation has primarily been used to animate human or human-like characters. For example, a motion sensor attached to an actor's arm or leg is used to drive the motion of a corresponding appendage on a computer character. With "Mov E", experimentation yielded varied techniques for how the motion capture data was applied to the models. In some scenes the motion capture data was used to create the objects on a frame by frame basis. In other scenes the motion capture data drove deformation functions instead of rotations and translations. We asked Laune Van Werin, a dance choreographer, to work with us in interpreting our motion ideas. With the help of Laurie's performance, we created an energetic building, an eerily emotive tree, an angry bus, and an abstract bedroom scene.

"Mov E" is rendered in black and white, lending a stylized look and feel that is simple, yet dimensional and elegant, reminiscent of a charcoal drawing. Tim Pitschka added an ambient, pensive soundtrack that gives "Mov E" a surreal, dreamlike quality.
