HONORARY MENTION
Oiseaux Céléstes II / Traces, Sillons, Sillages II
Ana-Maria Avram, Iancu Dumitrescu

Iancu Dumtirescu is one of the leading personalities of Romanian music, embracing both composition, interpretation and musical criticism. After his encounter with Sergiu Celibidache - the titanic personality who gave him generous lessons, he found his reason in phenomenology. His compositions are based on an acousmatic aesthetics by virtue of which the sound is subjected to analyses and dissociations (harmonical multisounds - diagonal sounds) which confer it a genuine force of suggestion and penetration.
His music is played in international musical festivals in Paris ( Radio France ), Orleans, Rotterdam, Utrecht, London, Assisi, Perugia, Vienna, Bourges, Milan, Brussels, Rome, Köln, Amsterdam, New York, Boston, Bucharest. With Ana-Maria Avram, he set up the „edition modern“ record label in 1990.
Since 1988, Avram has mantained a close collaboration with Iancu Dumitrescu, but she has also continued to forge her own direction in music. She is considered to be one of the most important Romanian composers of her generation. Her work incorporates the outward semblences of sonic abstraction reaching its full development in the synthesis of electroacoustic and instrumental sources - an outstanding position in spectral music.
Her works has been commissioned by prestigious ensembles such as Kronos Quartet, “20. Jahrhundert” from Vienna, soloists from l Orchestre National de France, orchestras as Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra, Romanian National Orchestra, Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestra, L Orchestre de Chambre de Roumanie, etc. Avram s music was performed in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Standford, in Vienna, at Paris, in London, Nancy, Alicante, Lisbon, Baden-Baden, Darmstadt, Moscow, Belgrade, etc.
