HONORARY MENTION
A Lecture on Disturbances in Architecture
Carl Michael von Hausswolff

Carl Michael von Hausswolff s position is hard to force into any conventional category, be it composer, producer, editor, curator or installation artist. Clearly he has been all of these things, and it would seem that this ambiguous identity has made his work even more attractive to the art world of the last half decade, which also saw the start of the eternal project „The Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland“, a conceptual piece including establishing a new country that was initiated together with colleague Leif Elggren.
During the ten years that this state has functioned 650 citizens are bearers of passport and constitution and approximately 20 embassies and consulates have been inaugurated in many worldwide cities. In 1995 Carl and Leif s first, one hour long version of the National Anthem, was released in London by Ash International (RIP). From 1996 until now von Hausswolff has composed several pieces not using the usual installation as a source. Instead he has developed a personal technique based upon a combination of concept, intuition showing an aesthetical surface free from ornamental unnecessities.

During the nineties he also developed a concept based on the discoveries by Swedish EVP researcher Friedrich Jürgenson. Here von Hausswolff established an audiovisual form that enables the audience to discover if there were life forms within the frameworks of the electrical systems in various buildings.

The seven sound pieces of „A Lecture on Disturbances in Architecture“ are all based upon various sonic problems occurring when dealing with daily life in the realms of a domestic household. It seems like there is a vast ignorance within the construction of a living place. Architects seem to have neglected that area within a space that has to do with sonic vibrations. There is simply not enough interest and development from builders of houses concerning frequency problems in these living spaces.
