HONORARY MENTION
School's Out For Rosh Hodos Adar II
Thomas Hainscho

School's Out For Rosh Hodos Adar II of Thomas Hainscho is a text adventure about a school kid who gets locked in his school over three Jewish holidays. He has to solve different problems and tasks to finally make his way out of the school building.

Before May 2002 I had never even played a text adventure game. (Text adventures were the very first computer games; they are navigated and played via text input and output only). I found my first game of this kind on a CD which came with a game magazine. I immediately liked it and during my summer holidays spent my time learning TAG (Text Adventure Generator), the programming language developed specifically for text adventures. Over Christmas vacation 2002 I began making my first game. I was inspired by other games, by different books and films.

My game is about a school kid who gets locked in his school over three Jewish holidays. He has to solve different problems and tasks to finally make his way out of the school building. The title of the game refers to the Jewish holidays which are closest to my birthday. Adar II is a leap month and Rosh Hodesh is the festival at the beginning of the month (though in reality schools aren’t closed for these three days).
