Anyone who can make a sine wave can participate in the Sine Wave Orchestra. It performs with all group members taking part concurrently. During the performance each contributor creates only the sound of a single sine wave, each one of which is broadcast from a distinct speaker.
The Sine Wave Orchestra Static installation includes 32 laptops and 64 sine waves sourced from remote field recordings that consist of a symbolic sound landscape with sine wave generators. Performances in Japan, at locations such as Tokyo and Nagoya, create a sense of atmosphere where local audiences become involved as sitespecific orchestral members, changing amplitudes and frequencies by applying light using the back of mobile phone cameras, for example.
