HONORARY MENTION
Adventkalender
3A-Klasse (VS 2 Linz)

A general introduction into “information technology” is offered at our school in the third grade. In autumn 2004 we decided to do the project Adventkalender (Advent Calendar). The project supervisor looked for a good Christmas story. The IT pupils turned the story into a serial using Word, and then drew pictures to go with it in Paint. The story and the pictures were printed out and presented as an advent calendar in the stairwell. This meant our class contributed to improving the reading skills of every pupil at VS 2—and these skills are very important at our school.

In January, the pupils learned to use PowerPoint, which turned out to be great fun. All the pictures were sent by e-mail to one computer, where they were then put together into a PowerPoint presentation. The texts were rewritten and all the sheets animated.

The project supervisor photographed and filmed all the pupils. These photos and the film, with the names of all the children, were also added to the presentation and animated.

Class 3A of Volksschule 2, a primary school in Linz, has been learning how to use the computer since the first grade. At this school learning programmes are employed as aids in German, mathematics, social studies and general science.
