DISTINCTION
A Gentleman’s Duel
Tim Miller

To vie for the affections of a wealthy woman, a Frenchman named Dubious and an Englishman named Weatherby fight a duel with two peculiar weapons: steam-powered mechs. This sevenminute short film is Oscar-nominated Blur Studio’s fifth original production that has been part of Siggraph’s Electronic Theater.

InA Gentleman’s Duel, this time-honored tradition is re-imagined with a fantastic blend of boisterous characters and over-the-top comedic action.

With a visual style that is distinctively illustrative and painterly, Blur’s computer-generated scenery takes on as much punch as the story. Everything is exaggerated, from the elaborate character design, the shine on the mother-of-pearl, to the curling steam that thrusts from the helmets. As in all productions by Blur, the detail is rich, the colors vivid and the quality of the imagery remains top notch.
