HONORARY MENTION
LUX (Shine) Neon Girl
Framestore CFC

Featuring animated 3D VFX unlike anything Framestore CFC has come up with before, Neon Girl is an amazing new, all-CG spot for Shine soap from Lux.

Neon Girl was a major project for the team, in particular because of the contribution they made to the production design. When they got the job there was a basic storyboard, which laid out the narrative, but no designs. In the first months of production, the look of the neon drawings that the director and client approved of was established. The process that developed started with paper sketches, which were then converted into vector art using Toon Boom, a vector animation package. From Toon Boom the work went through Flash, which provided a file format that made it possible to get this 2D curve animation into Houdini. In Houdini the animated curves were put through a feedback loop to generate all of the neons, whether they were on or off, and then their animation was reapplied on top of this to indicate which tubes should switch on at which point.
