MIDI PAINT - the film
Leonhard Huber
Midi-Paint is a musical drawing program, which transforms drawings, as they are created or as a finished picture, into musical sounds.
A special kind of drawing program awaits the music enthusiast who enjoys experimentation. All the drawing data, including the 16 colors available for drawing, are transformed into MIDI information. This is done both during the drawing process and afterwards.
I attempted to make the operation of the program as intuitive as possible.
In order to begin drawing, a sound group designated by an assigned color must first be selected. Each color is assigned to one of the 16 GM instrument groups. Then the style of drawing needs to be determined.
Switching between the instruments of these groups is accomplished using the respective scrollbar and then clicking on the sound groups button.
The drawing process is activated by selecting a drawing utensil and a sound group and then clicking on the desired starting point in the drawing field. The process is deactivated by letting go of the mouse key.
A finished drawing may be played by clicking in the field "Plot musically". The similarity of the tonal image with the fractal image may be clearly perceived. A progress bar shows the playing progress. Playing the music may be interrupted at any time by pressing the STOP button. |
