Manhattan Timeformations
"Manhattan Timeformations" is the visualization of the dynamic relationship between Manhattan's skyscrapers and various factors of urban development. The significant potential of linking information and architecture is impressively demonstrated here.
"Manhattan Timeformations" is a computer model which simultaneously presents a layered, cartographic history of the lower half of Manhattan Island, and an exploded time line chronicling the real estate development of high-rise office buildings, which constitute the skylines of Midtown and Downtown Manhattan. The unusual and hybrid character of this computer model allows one to correlate the cartographic history of 370 years of urban development of the island with the peaks and valleys of office building speculation. It is the swarming activity of real estate speculation during concentrated periods of building activity within highly localized districts that characterizes the timeformation of New York City's skyline.
