The Museum of the Future has instituted special Tuesday opening hours during the lead-up to summer vacation (June 1 to July 6, 9 AM to 5 PM). This is the perfect opportunity for a great class outing before school’s out.
The CAVE in the Center’s lower level immerses visitors in the fascinating possibilities of virtual reality. Stroll through a digital mock-up of Linz’s new train station or explore the emotional universe of an individual human being—anything’s possible here! In “Tug of War,” you pit your strength against virtual opponents. The group that emerges victorious in “Jam-O-Drum” is the one that collaborates the best.
The fairytale book of the future awaits you one level higher. Here, reading a story as words on a page has been replaced by accompanying Little Red Riding Hood on her way through the forest to grandma’s house via head-mounted display. And you can even intervene in the plot.
“Humphrey II,” the Ars Electronica Center’s new flight simulator, is the museum’s most popular installation. State-of-the-art technology imparts a feeling of flying that’s just like the real thing. Establish your own personal high score on a flight through the Linz cityscape.
Hasn’t everyone dreamed of, at least once, acting out a part on a stage? In “Gulliver’s Box,” this dream comes true in virtuality. In the Recording Room, visitors can create their own 3-D avatars and dispatch them to battle dragons and perform magic with fairies in a fantastic virtual world.
