Now Also Open on Tuesdays!

A journey through virtual realms or a flight above the cityscape of Linz – the fascinating world of bits & bytes in the Ars Electronica Center is the perfect destination for a class outing!

Plus, the Ars Electronica Center will be open on Tuesdays during the time leading up to summer vacation (June 7 to July 5, 2005 from 9 AM to 5 PM) – ideal for a visit to the incredible, one-of-a-kind Museum of the Future during the last days of school before summer break.

On the Underground Level, the CAVE offers visitors deep insights into the amazing possibilities of virtuality. A journey through a human being’s emotional universe or a labyrinth beyond the realm of physical and spatial limitations—here, everything is possible!

In "Gulliver’s World," the Museum of the Future’s most popular attraction, anybody can design his/her own personal realm of fantasy, create their own 3D figures, and dispatch them on an expedition of discovery through this virtual domain. Guests who want to get into the swing of things even prior to their visit can log on to the "Gulliver’s World" website (www.aec.at/gulliverswelt) and design their own "Gulliver’s World" comics.

"Brumm, Brumm – Commotion" is just the thing for Formula 1 fans. Here, motorheads face off against one another by using their voices to speed their racecars on their way around the track. The winner is the one who does the best imitation of a high-performance engine!

On the First Upper Level, "Messa di Voce" transforms sounds and noise into images. Another popular attraction is "Moony," a sanctuary for the observation of butterflies from a virtual world. The next level up is the site of an enchanting installation featuring a truly magic paintbrush that enables users to draw pictures without even a drop of paint. And in "Protrude, Flow," sounds set a fluid into motion and change its shape in a way that seems to defy gravity. But whether the presentation deals with complex technology or provides insights into the otherwise-so-abstract world of data flows, the central focus at the Museum of the Future is always on the visitors themselves and their personal encounter with ideas of tremendous importance for their future.

What are the possibilities of processing and visualizing various different kinds of information? In the "Archiquarium," you’ll find numerous examples, including those that offer fascinating insights into the development of new media and the cyberarts over the last 25 years. And in the Mediatheque, there’s lots of opportunities for hands-on experimentation with prizewinning projects from the Prix Ars Electronica’s "u19 – freestyle computing" category, Austria’s largest computer competition for young people. Maybe one or two of our young guests will even be inspired to get creative and go on to submit entries of their own to "u19 – freestyle computing" some day!

The Visitors’ Service of the Ars Electronica Center has a wide range of offerings and one just right for your group—from a regular one-hour tour of the whole Museum of the Future to special four-hour combination packages featuring a theme tour (cyber-worlds, robotics and a lot more choices) and a workshop. All offerings are custom-tailored to a specific age group (6 and up). Plus, our expert Infotrainers are stationed throughout the Museum to provide user-friendly assistance and facilitate guests’ interactions with the installations.

Current information about offerings, special packages, school and summer vacation programs, and opening hours is available online at www.aec.at/center. This website also provides detailed and comprehensive information about the individual installations currently on display.

The price of admission is 3 euros per pupil. Based on past experience, we expect to receive a flood of requests for guided tours; therefore, we are advising groups interested in arranging such a tour to make reservations as early as four weeks prior to the date of their planned visit. To do so, simply send an e-mail to center.bs@aec.at or call us at 0732/7272-51.

The staff of the Ars Electronica Center is looking forward to welcoming lots of student groups and their chaperones to the Museum of the Future!
