Ed Burton on the Net Vision / Net Excellence Jury
Ed Burton (UK) loves to play: His online construction kit "sodaconstructor" for building animated models has won the Interactive Arts BAFTA Award 2001.

Ed Burton grew up playing with computer programming, with his first software title being published at the age of 17. Play is still a central aspect of his work: He is the original culprit behind "sodaconstructor", the java toy that exemplifies his peculiar passion for dynamic interaction facilitating creative play and emergent behaviour he has developed for Soda, where he is the Research and Development Director.

Ed's current research interests are reflected in his ongoing doctoral thesis applying artificial intelligence as a framework to represent and investigate the way young children learn to draw.

At Prix Ars Electronica, Ed Burton will be member of the Jury for Net Vision / Net Excellence. For him the winners of the Golden Nica will be the ones that generate new criteria that shatter whatever preconceived criteria the jury members bring with them.
