Joshua Davis on the Net Vision / Net Excellence Jury
One of the more creative minds in multimedia today is member of the Prix Jury: Flash guru Joshua Davis. At Prix Ars Electronica 2001, Joshua Davis (USA) has been awarded the Golden Nica in the category 'Net Excellence' for Praystation, a showcase for experimental interface design where he pursues the goal of implementing a creative use of technology and design in daily modules. Joshua Davis is a New York artist and technologist producing both public and private work on and off the Web. He is currently an instructor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and lectures globally on his work, inspirations and motivations. Coming to international prominence in 1998 with web based projects such as dreamless.org, praystation and Once Upon A Forest, Davis has been one of those creatives who actually shaped the look of the internet and also how we navigate through websites. His most known project, "Praystation", has been research and development web-site. Its objective is to apply design and technology into a collection of small, sometimes daily, modules - is incubating a lifestyle, a mentality, living with anomalies: It is a 'deviation' from the common rule, it is 'irregularity', something different, abnormal, peculiar, or not easily classified), producing work in a world that is under constant flux and change. Last year, Joshua Davis published a widely acclaimed book: Flash to the Core: An Interactive Sketchbook, where he explains his philosophies, his approach to Flash workflow, how he works with clients, how he explains and explores the world around him through his creative approach to Flash web design, animation and motion graphics. Part two is about the work itself: Twelve Flash-based projects Joshua has created in the past year - with the code used in the project included and explained. | ||||||||||
