Casey Reas on the Net Vision / Net Excellence Jury
Casey Reas is an artist, educator, and designer exploring kinetic systems through diverse digital media. Currently, he is developing "Processing", a learning platform for media design. The focus of Casey Reas' work is generating systems that produce behavior and exploring issues of control and communication between people and machines. Reas has exhibited and lectured in Europe, Asia, and the United States and his work has recently been shown at the American Museum of the Moving Image, Ars Electronica, Interaction ' 01, MoMa, and P.S.1 in Queens. Reas is currently an Associate Professor at the newly founded Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in northern Italy where he teaches courses in interaction design, wearable computing, and visual communication. He is the coordinator of Ivrea's Personal Technologies research unit. With Ben Fry of the MIT Media Lab, he is developing Processing, a platform for learning fundamentals of computer programming within the context of the media arts. Reas received his MS degree in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Laboratory where he was a member of the Aesthetics & Computation Group (ACG). His research within the ACG focused on the concept and execution of behavioral software and kinetic sculpture. Prior to joining the ACG, Reas worked as a design director at i/o360° digital design in New York and received a BS degree from College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati. | ||||||||||
